Evaluation kits available now, giving RTLS engineers a ready-to-use UWB platform without the antenna design burden.

AntennaWare, specialists in antennas for on-body and other difficult platforms announces that its patented BodyWave™ antennas have been specified in SynchronicIT's Omlox Tags and SFM11 UWB modules. SynchronicIT is a Netherlands-based specialist in UWB indoor localisation and the Omlox open RTLS standard.

Body-worn Omlox Tags now include BodyWave™ as standard. The SFM11, for integration into third-party PCBs is availabel in SychronicIT's evaluation kit alongside Omlox Satellites, so developers can assess the technology before committing to a design. White-label versions are also available.

Body-worn UWB has historically been unreliable. Tissue and metal detune conventional antennas and absorb radiated energy, cutting link budget and causing position drop-outs in Non-Line-of-Sight (NLoS) conditions. In a walk test, a standard chip antenna reported location errors of up to 70 metres (multipath) in NLoS, while BodyWave™ retained accuracy. BodyWave™ offers 6-12dB link budget improvement under NLoS conditions, resulting in double the range, half the power consumption, and the relaibility required for mission-critial applications across industry, logistics, healthcare, sport and live events.

Available to order via synchronicit.nl or antennaware.com, the accuracy of the SFM11 module will be demonstrated on AntennaWare's Electronica booth.

Dr Gareth Conway, CEO & Co-Founder of AntennaWare explains, "Designers building body-worn UWB products have largely had to choose between antenna performance and time to market. Having BodyWave™ available as a specified component in SynchronicITs Omlox modules and tags removes this trade-off."

Vincent Van der Locht, CEO, SynchronicIT, adds "Using BodyWave™ maked the body blocking effect almost disappear and allows reliable position information independent of the orientation of the person."
