Bourns Introduces CRH2512 Series High-Power Metal Alloy Resistors for Low-Ohmic Current Sensing
Bourns today announced its CRH2512 Series High-Power Metal Alloy Resistors, designed for low-ohmic current sensing in compact surface-mount assemblies. The series combines a power rating of up to 5 W with resistance values from 0.5 mΩ to 30 mΩ, providing designers with a current-sensing component for high-current industrial and power-management applications.
Current-sensing circuits require designers to balance resistance value, power handling, temperature stability, and available PCB area. Excess resistance contributes to power loss, while changes in resistance over temperature can affect current-measurement accuracy. The CRH2512 Series uses metal alloy technology and provides TCR values of ±75 ppm/°C at 0.5 mΩ and ±50 ppm/°C from 1 mΩ to 30 mΩ. Its -55 °C to +170 °C operating temperature range supports use across changing thermal conditions.
“High-current sensing designs require low resistance values while maintaining predictable electrical characteristics across the operating temperature range,” said Walter Garcia, Product Line Manager, Bourns. “The CRH2512 Series provides values down to 0.5 mΩ, power handling up to 5 W, and multiple resistance tolerance options in a 2512 surface-mount package. These characteristics give designers defined tradeoffs among current capability, resistance tolerance, and thermal operating conditions.”
