Super Resolution Line Sensor for Lidar Replacement

based on advanced automotive 77 GHz Radar  chipsets RFbeam has developed the high resolution line sensor E-MD4 in an industrial IP67 case.
The sensor will be shown in a live demonstration at the RFbeam booth B3/517
It is a first demonstration of this technology to help interested customers to start a custom development with RFbeam.

With 120 deg. angular coverage and the vertical  4 degree field of view it can be used in similar applications as a Lidar sensor or Laser scanner, but providing much higher immunity against rain, fog and snow interference.
The sensor can be mounted as collision avoidance sensor on moving or fixed platforms and has a detection range of 0.4 to 200 meters. The range resolution over the full range is 10 cm.
The new developed waveguide antenna array features 96 virtual MIMO channels and can realize multi target detection with a resolution of 1 deg. over the 120 deg. field of view.
The detected objects can be accessed as point cloud data over the industrial Ethernet interface.
A robust alternative to Lidar, this sensor is ideal for autonomous vehicles, outdoor forklifts  and robots, where multi-target detection and high resolution are critical for effective obstacle avoidance.
A robot operating system (ROS) interface will be available.
